The biggest change for us is that before becoming Crystal River we sang all acapella and now we have music. Other than that, the style of singing is the same. ![]() I’d like to take a look at a most renowned gospel group that achieved such recognition in the southern gospel genre that they are frequently among the first ones thought of when anyone mentions “southern gospel music” in conversation
![]() “Best Convention Ever”. Those words and sentiments were echoed again and again at the close of the Mid-America Gospel Music Association’s Ninth Annual Convention held November 7 and 8 in Farmington, Missouri.
I have been so blessed to have lived long enough to have seen some of the great groups of yesteryear. I have great memories of seeing the Statesmen with Rosie, Jake, Doyle, Big Chief, and Hovie. I remember seeing the Blackwood Brothers singing in the Arthur Godfrey Show
Most of the articles I have read have been more like advertisements from politicians running for office. The people in this industry who hold the reigns simply don’t care! The Government that is SGM has become a Communist Regime.
We need to look into our relationships and remind ourselves that this is important and definitely worth fighting for! We aren’t to be fighting one another, but rather fighting FOR one another.
Many think that getting your part is all there is to singing in a quartet. But, when you sing in a group for any length of time, you begin realize that if a quartet does not BLEND vocally, it will never really sound good, or minister to the crowd
The gift of encouragement doesn't require a paid position or an office. As this boat we are all in gets bigger, it's more important than ever for us to cover each other in support. We need to encourage one another to press on, continue to walk forward, hold fast to our gifts and never, ever give up
There is a logical and orderly method to succeeding in SGM and it works just like God’s law says it should…you start at the beginning and you grow from there. How does this compare to the current system in SGM? You know – Send a song to radio – Wait a few months – blah, blah, blah, blah
I let you in on a private worship moment to let those of you who are perhaps living at mach 9 like I am currently that the Lord has you (us) in mind. He can be found in all of life if we just pay attention
As we here in the Houston area recently braced ourselves for the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, many residents were wondering aloud the age-old question, “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
1. Is the health of gospel music deteriorating or is it stronger than ever?
2. Does a new independent artist have a better chance at succeeding today than 20 years ago? ... In October, we were thrilled to attend a concert where Carroll McGruder and Priscilla McGruder received Lifetime Achievement Awards individually at the UPCI General Conference in Greensboro, NC

Dixie Echoes I cannot guarantee that I'll stay out of trouble. You've got to understand, with group members like Dustin Bearden, Brad Smith, Mark Blackwood and the occasional company of Jonathan Sawrie, I've got an endless supply of material
Our producer Glen Bates says, " Boys, when it is a God thing you better just get ready for the journey because He is going to take you places you’ve never been". We truly believe that!
Having spent 35+ years in the southern gospel music world I have seen and been a part of the show at every level. The one thing that is for sure, one day the show will end. What then? What is after the facade?
I love this time of year. The temperature is cooling off to the point that I actually don't mind singing at outdoor events. The leaves here in Tennessee are a bright and vivid gold, red and orange
That is all we need to know. No matter what happens, no matter how bad or how good it gets, we have no need to worry. God has all of his children In His Arms and under his ever watchful eye
We started October off with a week in Shipshewana, Indiana at the Blue Gate Restaurant and Theater (Phone 888-447-4725)!!! Scotty ate enough peanut butter to choke the teams of horses that Eddy drove down the main street in "Shipshe!"
Within our concerts, God is using our music and testimonies to minister to you and those sitting next to you in the church. He has also called us to speak at pregnancy crisis center events this year, sharing how God's mercy has erased the mistakes of our past
I love it when everyone gathers around the big dining room table and the games come out. Whether it’s plastic “men” tapping around a “Sorry” board, Trivial Pursuit, or a never-ending game of Monopoly
When you travel you never know what is going to happen and who you will wind up meeting. A couple of weeks ago, we were in Oklahoma and Texas and we were about thirty minutes away when our van began to spit and sputter and then stopped
