I Turned Off The TV

Well, I've handled all of the politics and stock market demise that I can handle for one day. I can't bear to hear another word from another Presidential candidate. I'm not depressed, but I sure am bored. What is there to look forward to in life? Neither candidate does anything for me and I like both Vice Presidential candidates better than either of the actual candidates.

It's times like these that I am reminded why I love Southern Gospel Music. I turn on a CD or the radio, preferably Southern Spin Radio, and how relaxing it is to hear those great harmonies. That high Tenor or that low Bass singer and maybe even that close three part harmony from a great trio just simply soothes my nerves. If it's Gold City, or the Booth Brothers, or close family harmony from the Hoppers or Talleys, when the voices blend with the piano and guitars, and the drums are softly in the track, I can just close my eyes and settle down.

While the music and voices of Southern Gospel Music are so refreshing, still there's more to it than just the blend of the voices and the music. It doesn't take but a song or two until I'm noticing that my spirit is a bit lighter and I'm not thinking of the turmoil of the financial markets or who's saying what in the political scene, but I'm thinking about how good it is to be a child of God. I can't help but think that this world is not my home (now that would be a good song, someone should write one with those words).
If the thought of the financial crisis does hit me, instead of thinking that I should be upset about it, I can't help but think that we might need one world leader to take care of this, and I may hear the sound of a trumpet blast, and then I won't care what happens to all the money that this world has. I better stop, or I just might start preaching.
Wow, what a change of attitude, and just from listening to a couple of good ole Southern Gospel songs. Isn't it amazing (ooh, another good thought for a song) how just listening to songs about the Gospel can turn your mind to the really important stuff. Oh, sure, what's happening to your money is important, but what's really important is if that trumpet sounds and our Lord returns for His own, will you be one of those going with Him, or one of those left behind?

I'm sure glad that I turned off the TV for a while, and turned on some good ole Southern Gospel Music.

Deon: AMEN! I'm a Chaplain at a retirement center, so I do alot of Hospital visiting with people who are dealing with the health issues of an aging body. There's just now way I can leave them with a witness of a Savior who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow if I listen to talk radio. I slide a great Southern Gospel CD in the player and my heart is prepared to be a blessing to that patient. I just had to say AMEN, brother!
