Throughout the scriptures, we are reminded of God’s favor on those who step out in faith believing that with a grain of a mustard seed, they are able to move mountains with help that only God can give. The young shepherd by the name of David is the first to come to my mind. God was able to use David, because David was faithful, to kill the giant Philistine, Goliath. God was able to use a defeated man in the eyes of his peers, by the name of Gideon to beat the Midianite army of many with only 300 men and a torch and trumpet. God used Mary, a young maiden to carry the “Son of God”, the Messiah, the Holy One when no one believed her. God has always had a plan for young people who serve Him. Paul tells young Timothy not to let people look down on him because of his youth but to be an example in all things that are of a good report, including, speech and purity.
God is clearly showing favor to a group of young men known as Statement Of Faith. Although these young men are “new comers” to the Southern Gospel Music Industry, there is a wealth of knowledge that backs this group because of Jacob Kitson’s God ordained opportunity to join Greater Vision and to learn what truly matters in serving in the kingdom of God. Jacob and his brother Joe vividly remember these words, “let’s make a statement-not for us but for Christ." That was the statement that uttered out of Jacob’s mouth when speaking about what he felt God was calling him to do as far as a continued music ministry was concerned.
Let’s take a few moments and meet this extraordinary trio known as Statement of Faith. Although, these three talented men are fairly young, they have a wealth of knowledge and support that back their ministry. The ministry is based out of Jefferson City, TN and consists of Jacob Kitson, his brother Joe and brother in law, David Mann. Jacob started his career singing with Tribute Quartet and then filled Jason Waldrop’s vacancy with Greater Vision when Jason felt God calling him into local church ministry. Joe Kitson, at the age of 14, began taking voice lessons and vocal training and then learned to sing harmony vocals. Joe went on to sing with The Toney Brothers, Dixie Melody Boys and now with his brother and his trio.
David says, “My father attended his first Cathedral Quartet concert a week before I was born. So, I honestly don't remember this music not being a part of my life. My mother has a cassette tape of me singing Cathedral songs at the age of 3.”
As I was talking with Jacob, I asked him what he thought was the biggest difference that he sees singing with his own group, Statement of Faith than that of Greater Vision. “It’s non-stop action. Of course GV had a bus so that was a sanctuary of sorts. We now travel with a van and trailer.” I am sure that it might be an adjustment but with fuel costs on the rise, there are sacrifices one must make in serving the Lord!
Jacob and Joe started this trio just a few short years ago and David Mann, their brother in law just jumped on the van with them over the last couple of months to round out this young and exciting trio.
By the looks of things, Statement of Faith not only minister through singing music but also by writing it. David and Joe are in house songwriters for the group and do a fantastic job relaying the message that the entire group wants to convey to their audience. In addition to singing and songwriting, the door has opened for Jacob to preach at various youth camps and retreats which says a lot about their character, ministering however God sees fit with whatever means necessary.
These young men are especially excited about what God has planned for their ministry. For more information about Statement of Faith, log on to http://www.statementoffaithministries.com
