The McRaes - Apr 06

Hi Everyone!

Wow! We feel like we've been in a whirlwind lately. Kelly and I flew home last night after a day of delays and and hours spent in about three different airports. Praise God our baggage made it to Nashville safe and sound! We had been on a mini tour of west Texas and Oklahoma for a couple of weeks and had a great time. The folks out there were incredibly generous and kind. I believe that we made some lifelong friends!

It's interesting and kind of frustraiting trying to plan a wedding on the road, but preparations for Kelly and Ricky's big day are coming along fine. At least we know what kind of food we're having!
A great big thanks to all of you who have prayed for and supported us with you donations and e-mails of concern, through the loss of our sound equipment and trailor. You'll never know how much we appreciate YOU! We are looking forward to replacing the sound within the next couple of weeks. Praise the Lord. He is faithful through it all. I love the promise in Isaiah 41:10- "Fear not; for I am with you. Do not be dismayed; for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, and I will up hold you with the right hand of my righteousness". Awesome! I've learned that there is a difference between hearing the Word and believing the Word. True victory and deliverance comes when we believe that what He said He will do! We can depend on the Lord!

God Bless,
Annie

Psalm 101 - Apr 06

I love this time of year as we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We usually attend a candlelight and communion service on Good Friday and spend time in prayer on Saturday. Then, as the sun is coming up on that Resurrection Sunday, we gather with friends & family for a special outdoor sunrise service. We try and stay away from the "Easter Bunny & Eggs" and make this a spiritual experience for our family. There are so many things in our lives that Jesus has Resurrected. He said himself, "I am the Resurrection." When Jesus conquered death and came back to life on that Resurrection Sunday, everything that was dead and lifeless in my life was resurrected to. Now, that's a reason to sing! I wrote song a few years ago called "The Resurrection." You may visit our web site to hear a clip of this song. I pray it blesses you!

Our brand new CD is coming right along. We record vocals April 10th -13th. I am really excited to get to sing with Angie Prim and Chip Davis. They will doing some background vocals. Of course, my husband Bill, will be featured on a couple songs and I get to drop back to do some "country" harmony parts. I really look forward to that! We are also doing a song with Hope's Call providing their wonderful blends on the harmonies! We are still looking for a title to this project. If you would like to help us out by entering our contest, please visit our web site for more details.

Our music tracks turned out great last month. We are putting some finishing touches on those as well. Kelly Back, Scott Sanders and my husband Bill Fulkerson will be together in the studio this month to lay down some awesome guitar tracks! We have one "rough cut" music clip from the studio available on our website....for those of you who want to get a preview!

We really appreciate all of you who send your encouragement, prayers & support. Thank you for attending our concerts. We love to read you letters & emails so keep em' coming!

Have a Blessed Resurrection!
Until Next Month!

Daryl Williams Trio - Apr 06

Two nights ago my 6 year old son asked, "When we learn everything there is to know about Jesus, can we stop going to church ?" He was a little confused by my laughter because, to him, this was a very serious question. Thank goodness Daryl was quick to reply - "Yes, Cason, we will stop going to church when we know it all." This question came from a little boy who gave his heart to Jesus less than a month ago. Of course his oldest sister argues that he doesn't act very saved and my other daughter says - "he needs to learn the 10 commandments cuz' he breaks like 5 a day." I often compare my son to King David, Stubborn but tender-hearted.

I began to wonder why Cason doesn't like church and I decided it's for the same reason he doesn't like school. Learning requires sitting still and listening. These are two skills that do not come easy for a 6 year old little boy. Sometimes they don't come very easy for my either. But they are required in learning. It's almost impossible to retain information if you are talking and moving around. That's because the focus is off the teacher and directed towards the distraction. We are all guilty of "spouting off" when we should be listening and most of us find it hard to sit still for any length of time. Learning requires humility. Arrogancy says - "I have all the answers therefore you can't teach me anything."

Just this year I learned that trees grow stronger during a drought. I would have thought just the opposite because without water (their sustenance) they die. But the longer the drought, the deeper the roots. Their root system has to keep digging until it finds water. Trees that have been through a drought are stronger and less likely to blow over in a storm. That little piece of information has encouraged me during the dry spells to just keep digging.

I have learned in the past month that dark chocolate lowers cholesteral and is actually beneficial to my health. Although, not life-changing information, it is so incredibly good to know that chocolate is my friend !!

In the past week my oldest daughter informed me that the 70's styles are on their way out and the 80's are "all the rage." Now I consider to know more than my children because I have lived longer and been through more experiences but this was information I did not know. She taught me something. I learned that, once again, I will be profoundly out of style because I refuse to wear shoulder pads again and my "big hair" days are over.

My point is, we are constantly learning and receiving new information. It's what we do with that information that makes the difference in our life and in the lives of others. As Christians, we are commissioned to preach the Gospel. To teach others about Christ. With knowledge comes responsibility. We are all teachers and we are all pupils. What a perfect month this is for letting someone know that Christ died for us, in spite of the fact that He already knows us.

I pray that I never get to a place where I know it all and I pray that I never get to a place where I stop sharing the information I do know.

God bless ya,
Karen

The Quicks - Apr 2006

It was Friday evening – Tim had gotten his infusion just like he has every week for the past six years. Hoping none of the neighbors were thinking he had been on a three day drunk, I helped him stumble up the back steps and safely into the house while thinking, “One day we won’t have to do this anymore.” We were singing out of town the next day, so I had been going through the routine of getting things ready. Finding what outfits Tim and us girls would wear to the singing, checking the briefcase to be sure we had our tracks (unlike some other group I know), and my least favorite – especially in cold weather – checking tire pressure. I left Rebecca at home to watch Tim while I hooked the trailer up to the van and drove it down to the gas station. Upon arriving, I noticed the hose was much shorter than usual. I maneuvered the van really close and took all the plugs off ahead of time – I’m not about to pay that 50 cents a second time – and the race was on! I put in my two quarters and there it was! Nothing. Not a sound. I mashed the handle and not one spwoosh of air. Not only was the hose inadequate to reach every tire, but the tank was empty. I was prepared to move the van in order to reach every tire, but there was nothing I could do about the empty tank. Not only do you not get any air, but the hose can actually let out what air you DO have! I’m standing there in the outdoors – SURROUNDED BY AIR – but it wasn’t doing me any good! There had to be air in the tank in order to send it into the tires, and the owner of that tank had not kept it filled. How many of us go into a ministry situation with an empty tank? Could it be that we may not only fail at GIVING, but we could possibly be TAKING from those very people we should minister to?

Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” We need to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit in order to minister. I could have talked to the air around me until I was blue in the face, but that was not going to get the tires what they needed. Making an attempt to get spiritual just in the knick of time won’t produce a thing. Coming up with a list of “buzz words” to stir people to react is nothing but hot air. Those of us who minister must stay connected in order to keep filled and be able to walk in the Spirit! God is then able to use us as vessels to give something to the listener.

I was determined to find air for those tires. I got in the van and drove until I found a gas station that had air. It was getting late, I was concerned about Tim having his treatment, Rebecca there watching him at home, whether Rachel had made it home from work – there were so many things on my mind that I almost turned around and went back home, but I knew I had to get the proper amount of air in the tires. I wasn’t about to go home empty. God help me to be just as determined, to walk in the Power of the Holy Ghost!

till next time…

April Reflections

They have returned, and I forgive them – those fair weather friends who left us to fend off winter’s chill without the warmth of their warble and song. The birds are a welcome sight! You must have seen them on their way home from Miami as they tipped their wings over Nashville and turned northwest – toward St. Louis. It’s just another sign that spring has come and nature breathes a sigh of relief. The daffodils in my back yard poked their heads up first, as if to say, “Is it warm yet?”, and soon the lilac bushes will be full of purplish blooms.

It seems like yesterday that my mom packed me off to Lincoln Elementary with a bouquet of lilacs – their damp stems tucked into a small Mason jar. Sometimes she included a few clippings from the honeysuckle that lay heavy across our old picket fence. The fragrance was intoxicating, and I don’t know who was more pleased – the seven year old who presented them or the crusty old second grade teacher who accepted them.

It was finally warm enough to play outside for a little while, but only with a sweater and a head scarf. Some rainy spring days found us playing on the open wooden porch of our chunky old Craftsman style home. I still remember riding a tricycle across the wooden slats of the porch, from one end to the other, and I have a somewhat vague recollection of a porch swing – whether ours or grandma’s, I’m not sure.

As spring warmed and the days grew longer, I’ll never forget the feeling of absolute freedom that came from shedding bulky sweaters, heavy jackets and scarves to run with the breeze in my hair and sun on my face.

Spring meant something else to my mother, of course. It meant spring house cleaning. I still remember mom taking down the heavy, dark draperies that covered the windows and it’s odd how cheery the room suddenly became. The sunlight streamed in and brightened the corners of what had been a dreary room. Letting in the light, of course, would show up the dust that had been unseen and undisturbed through the winter. She would begin sweeping down cobwebs and taking up the rugs. She took light fixtures apart and carefully washed each piece and put them back together. She washed windows and woodwork, scrubbed floors and walls. She cleaned out cabinets and drawers and closets that had been untouched for a long time, and she washed curtains and linens and aired the mattresses. Not a surface escaped her pail of soapy water. But my favorite part of this spring ritual was when she opened up all the windows to let fresh air into the house and the fan brought again the scent of lilac and honeysuckle.

Dad had his own version of spring cleaning. He would “clean out” the basement and the garage, but it didn’t seem like he actually got rid of much, but rather did a neat stacking of junk. He had come through the depression and was reluctant to part with things, even if their usefulness was questionable. On some occasions, things were thrown out only to find their way back into the house before the trash man could come. We called it boomerang trash.

Times have changed, but we still have our spring rituals. On one designated day in the spring we can haul our old junk, of whatever description, to the curb, and with few exceptions the city will pick up and haul off everything from old refrigerators and televisions to car parts, tree limbs, bathtubs and literally kitchen sinks. You can see all sorts of outdated computer accessories with cables still attached. You can see rows of moldy cardboard boxes full of who-knows-what. One thing you will usually spot after dark is a pick-up truck or two cruising the neighborhood to see what “good junk” they can carry off. That used to bother me at first. How dare they sort through my personal, private trash and carry it away! Then one day it occurred to me that even if they “stole” my stuff and carried it off before the city truck came, at least I’m done with it. It is now their problem to deal with, not mine.

I don’t know all the reasons God created spring, but, you know, it probably wouldn’t hurt us as Christians to do a little spring house cleaning as well. Sometimes we sit for months with a heavy curtain of despair over the windows of our heart, not realizing that just bringing down the curtains and letting in the light of God’s love can bring hope and cheer to an otherwise gloomy situation. And as the light streams in, it will show up areas of our lives that need attention. I want to wash the windows of my mind, my eyes, and make sure that they are not allowing the dirt of this world to filter out God’s glorious light. If I have an issue that needs to be aired out, I want to do it with love and compassion. I want to organize my efforts to evangelize this world and take up the rugs of apathy that encumber my feet. I really don’t want to just keep neat rows of old trash in my life.

You know, the great thing about the Salvation story is that we can bring all of our broken stuff, the old junk of our lives and lay them down - take them to the curb, if you will. The old song says, “Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.” You may be thinking, “But what if someone sifts through my personal life after I’ve laid my junk down and carries it away through gossip or accusation?” So what! You’re free of it. You can take a deep breath of fresh forgiveness and walk away. You’ve laid it down for the Master to dispose of, and if someone else picks it up, it is now their problem to deal with and they will one day have to divest themselves of it as well.

The Lord says that our sins will be remembered against us no more, and just like taking off a heavy coat, you can experience the freedom this promise brings. There is no boomerang trash with God. Take it to the curb.

Have a wonderful Spring,
Janice Crow

Sharron Kay King - He Put A Song In My Mouth

image
Psalms 40:3  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Oh how I love to sing for Jesus! I love to sing of His goodness; of His mercy; and of His grace. I just love to sing about Him!!! Anytime I take the stage I feel so small in the presence of God. To think that He has allowed me this privilege. It just amazes me.

Like David I want to lift my voice and use my talents for the glory of God. I desire to have a heart like David. What a psalmist! What a worshipper! When I read his writings I am so inspired. The flow of his words; the depth of his message. Oh to praise God as David did.

We read in  II Samuel 6:14  And David danced before the LORD with all his might;  Do we dance with all our might? Do we even praise Him with all our heart? In today's world of pride and self worth I often see folks that will not even lift their hands in praise to our Lord and Savior. I realize some cultures and some religious beliefs are satisfied with setting and hearing the word and that's fine. I don't want to offend anyone. But as long as there is breath in my body I will praise the Lord with all my might!

When I'm in concert I love to raise my hands in praise to my friend. My Lord. My God. For it was He who gave His life's blood to purchase my salvation. He raised His hands for me so why should I not do the same for Him? Jesus is worthy of all praise and adoration. Oh don't get me wrong, there are times when I just love to embrace His presence. I love to fold my arms across my chest and hold Him tight.

There are so many ways to praise Him. Some folks love to close their eyes and meditate some like to dance and perhaps let out a holler! As long as it's descent and in order we can praise Him however we choose. It doesn't matter to me how I praise Him as long as my praise is for Him!

As we reflect on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ this month, perhaps try lifting your hands wherever you may be and praise Him for His wonderful sacrifice. You might stir something within the hearts of those around you. It could open a door of opportunity to witness!

Anyway; on to other things:

The past five weeks I've been on tour traveling through the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. I was so blessed to have met so many nice folks on every stop. I received such kindness and encouragement from everyone. Many folks put me up in their homes and were so kind to me I just have to make mention of their kindness. Sandy and JR in Georgia. The Glovers in Kentucky. Cheri Taylor in Southern Indiana. Not just this trip but all along my journey God has lead me into the paths of some of the nicest people that have been such a blessing to me.They have all become very dear friends.

A special thank you to WJTG in Central Georgia for having me come back to be part of your Radio Rally Concert with Ricky Atkinson and Compassion. Tracy and Sue you are wonderful! Keep up the "God" work!!!

To all the Pastors and the fine folks who came out to be with me in service, thank you. My heart sings a song of thanksgiving for all that God has done for me and is doing in my life. And I am grateful for all of you who support me and pray for me.

Don't forget to call your favorite Southern Gospel station and request my new single, "Chin Up Journey On".

Keep me in mind when planning your next concert or special event. I would love the opportunity to come and praise Jesus with you!

Until next time;   Chin Up... Journey On!

Psalms 9:1  I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvelous works.

Calling All Bass Singers

As many of you know, my dad, Tim Riley, has been filling in singing bass for us while we search for a new bass singer. He is doing a great job. We’ve been trying to talk him into staying with us, but he says he feels the Lord is leading him to spend more time ministering to the fish these days. So, we are still on the hunt. If you or someone you know is interested, send your demo and resume in as soon as possible. We must have a demo! We will review all that we receive to determine who we bring in for an audition. Send them to:

Ridin' In Style

Doug Keller, one of our former bus drivers, was kind enough to come and help us drive on our Canadian trek. If you have never met Doug, he is a jewel of a guy and country as cornbread. Typically a driver will sleep while we sing, then we sleep while he drives. Last Sunday night in Kingston, Ontario he was waiting for us to pick him up after our concert. Instead of our big white bus rolling up to pick him up, a big white limousine pulled up to get him. He had no idea it was there for him until Murray, the limo driver, rolled out a red carpet and invited “Mr. Keller” to get in. When Murray delivered Doug to our bus, he walked on and asked “did ya’ll see that thang that come got me?!” It was the least we could do for a guy that was about to drive us 1200 miles home. Thanks for your help Doug! Murray was kind enough to take us all out for a fine meal at Wendy’s before we headed home.

Embrace - Are We Going?

image
Welcome to spring! Hope everyone at your house is well. The Embrace family is continuing to recuperate from their adventures in health. We are so thankful!

Dane, Marci and Melinda along with our families have been on the road again. We always enjoy seeing old friends as well as meeting new ones. God has blessed each of the services we've participated in by sending such tremendous encouragement and, in many instances, spiritual and emotional healing. God knows our needs and is so faithful to provide just what is necessary at just the right time.

A dear friend and I were talking just the other day about the ministry that God has called us into. Admittedly there are those who honestly think that we have lost our minds. Anyone I suppose who would spend their week-ends on a bus with ten other people, five of whom are ten years old or younger, riding for hundreds of miles only to unload a vast array of equipment, set it all up, sing for 45 minutes to an hour, load everything back on the bus, and drive to their next destination only to repeat the process would be of questionable sanity, but there are many groups out there doing this month after month. Why?

The answer is simple indeed, even if the process is not. The Lord Christ told us to do this. In Matthew 28:19 Jesus said to His disciples, "go" and in verse 20 He said that when we go in His purpose that He would go with us.

In our Sunday morning Bible study we've been looking into the book of John. Last Sunday we studied the contrast between Nicodemus and the Samaritan woman at the well. Both were in need. One came seeking truth while the other just wanted water. One was socially elite, the other an outcast in a society of outcasts. It is interesting that although Nicodemus came to Jesus, Jesus went to the Samaritan woman. He knew she was coming to that very spot by the well and He went to all the trouble of meeting her there. Thanks to the Savior, the woman went home satisfied, never again to thirst for the Living Water that filled her soul that day.

Jesus' feet were calloused and dirty no doubt but to the woman at the well those feet were the most beautiful that she had ever seen. Long before this woman was ever born Isaiah wrote, "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'" What looks very unbecoming to this world is lovely to the Lord God and to those who receive Him.

Jesus had feet that were busy going. Today we are His feet and as such we may appear undesirable, even detestable to those who have never been born again. But are we busy going? Your "going" may mean reaching out to those very near you, those you encounter daily. Whatever "going" God has entrusted to us, I pray that we are faithful. Wouldn't it have been tragic if the woman at the well had come, found no one there, drawn her water and returned home that day the same as when she came, never to know the Savior's love, never to have the Truth revealed to her?

My prayer today for you and for Embrace is that we are found faithful in our going where God appoints us to go, reaching those people He has destined us to reach for His kingdom. God bless each one of you!

Love in Christ from the Embrace family.

The Bradleys - Song Stories - “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”

image
Song Stories - "Everything's Gonna Be Alright"

Behind every good song, there is a story. From the inspiration that sparked the idea in the mind of the writer to the blessing it brought to the heart of the listener, I love to hear the story behind a song.

On our very first project, almost seventeen years ago, we recorded a song entitled “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.” We still get requests for it! And I really never get tired of it, because of the stories behind the song. I’ve seen it touch so many people through the years.

Donna O’Neal was expecting her first child. Un-willing to accept the responsibilities that come with a family, her husband left her and their unborn baby without explanation. Donna was devastated. Facing the challenge finding a job to support herself and the coming baby, and bringing up a child on her own she sank into depression.

At our lowest moments Satan whispers his suggestions of false solutions. Donna was being tempted to take her own life. I’m so glad that Donna knew the Lord, and she apparently cultivated her relationship with Him daily. During her darkest hour, while entertaining the idea of suicide, she reached for her Bible which lay on a nearby
nightstand. It fell open and she read these words, “Today, I place before you life and death, choose life...” ( it still brings tears to my eyes to relate this story, even as I type) Wow! Can God speak? YES HE CAN, and HE DOES!!!

Donna chose life, and in the midst of her trying situation, she wrote the song that has touched many with the courage to face another day.

Lyrics:
Sometimes I feel like a ship on a raging sea,
Tossing to and fro with the storms of life.
I feel like a drifter. There’s no peace for me,
But the Jesus whispers, “Everything is alright”
And everything’s gonna be alright. The night’s almost over.
The sun is gonna shine again when the morning comes.
Everything’s gonna be alright. Victory is on the way.
I’m gonna lean on Jesus, and everything’s gonna be alright.
Sometimes you may feel like there is no hope.
The burdens you carry are too hard to bear.
Just cast all your cares on Him. He cares for you.
Lean on Jesus, and everything’s gonna be alright.
Everything’s gonna be alright. The night’s almost over.
The sun is gonna shine again when the morning comes.
Everything’s gonna be alright. Victory is on the way.
I’m gonna lean on Jesus, and everything’s gonna be alright.

Everything is alright for Donna. She had a sweet baby girl. God blessed her with a Christian husband and now they have a son. They work together in the ministry of music at their church in King, NC. She also established a Pro-Life ministry, “Hey I’m Alive”

My grandmother, Irene Gilliam (Mamaw), had many health problems during the last ten years of her life on this earth. In and out of hospitals, living with an oxygen tank at her side 24/7, with multiple medications, and on a fixed income, she faced a new battle each day.

“Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” was one of her favorite songs. She’d always ask us to sing it for her. The last time my mom spoke with her, Mamaw’s condition had worsened and she sounded weak and tired. Mom said, “Do you remember the song you love, ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Alright’?”

Mamaw’s voice suddenly brightened as she said, “Oh yes, everything’s gonna be alright.” A few hours later, she moved to Heaven where everything truly is alright!

In Michigan, a couple came to us with their story. Their twin, teenaged daughters had attempted suicide. One daughter survived; they lost the other. I can’t imagine a harder thing to endure. These heartbroken parents came to us after the concert, and thanked us for “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.” They had literally worn out our
cassette listening to the song over and over. God had used the song to help them through the most difficult time in their lives.

I don’t know the number of souls who have been blessed by the song, but we’ve seen tears streaming during concerts almost every time the song was sung. As Christians, we know God’s promises, we believe His Word, but in this world of trouble we need to be reminded often that “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright!”
