The Talleys - Jul 05

image
Hi everyone!

My apologies for sending this out a little late this month; traveling plus studio work have thrown my schedule a little off course as of late. Hope this finds everyone well; I've enjoyed hearing from many of you in response to last month's letter. Because I didn't share any regular news last time, I have a good bit to catch up on.....

A while back, our "Praise For The Ages" recording was the recipient of SoGospelNews.com's Progressive Album of the Year Award. Thanks to SoGospelNews for doing all that you do to promote Gospel Music, and especially for thinking of us.

My dad had a big week last week. His three gift-receiving occasions all fall in the same week: his birthday, Father's Day, and my parents' anniversary. Mom and Dad just celebrated 27 years of marriage, and I'd tell you how old he is, but he doesn't mind if I tell his age, which just takes all the fun out of it. smile

We are doubling up on our vitamins and caffeine for the Steve Hurst School of Music which begins July 10. Mom and I teach vocal and performance technique for individuals and organized groups during this exciting week. If you sing, play the piano, write songs, or lead worship in church and are interested in next year, log onto http://www.stevehurstschoolofmusic.com and you can find everything you need to know.

Right after we get home from the school, we begin making last-minute preparations for our Smoky Mountain Homecoming! It is approximately three weeks away, and you still have time to grab a seat. It all happens July 22-23, and you'll see and hear the Talleys along with our guests Anthony Burger, Mercy's Mark Quartet, and the Booth Brothers. Also, don't forget our talent contest Saturday morning. The winners from the solo and group divisions will be taking home some great prizes! Log onto http://www.talleytrio.com or call 423-235-2916 and plan your trip to the mountains before it's too late.

The Talleys are very excited to have the opportunity to return to New York in August, to perform at the renowned Brooklyn Tabernacle. Pastor Jim Cymbala saw us sing "His Life For Mine" sometime ago on television, and invited us to come especially to sing that song. When we have visited that church in the past, I think we went away the most blessed of anyone there. They know how to worship.

Speaking of "His Life For Mine," we also will be performing the song as a Top Ten nominee for Song of the Year at the Singing News Fan Awards ceremony held Thursday night at the National Quartet Convention. We are so proud of its writer, Rebecca Peck, and so thankful that she let us have it!

One more thing- please be in prayer for our secretary, Bobbie Susong, who had to have emergency surgery this past weekend. She's resting ok, but will be out of the office for approximately 6-8 weeks. During this time, your patience and cooperation with correspondence and orders will be much appreciated. We'll try to be as expeditious as possible while Bobbie's gone. Guess we've worn the poor girl out.....

Hopefully the newsletter should be back on schedule next month. Please keep us in your prayers.

Until next time,

Lauren Talley

What Are You Crabbing About?

Our family loves old movies! Rebecca and I like to use famous movie quotes in our regular conversation. One of my favorites is An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Debra Kerr. The first of the movie is set on a cruise ship. There is a scene in the movie where a young boy is playing on a rail that leads from an upper deck of the ship and gets stuck. Nick Feranti (Cary Grant) helps to free the boy, then Terri McKay (Debra Kerr) tries to console him by telling a story of how she broke her leg when she was young. The boy responds, “How is it now?” Mrs. McKay says, “Well, all right I guess.” The young fellow responds, “Well, what are you crabbing about?”

While reading back through the Old Testament lately, I have gotten to the book of Numbers during the “wilderness” years of the nation of Israel . These people had been “crabbing” just about every step of the way!

We all go through trials – “stuff” we have to deal with - and these frustrating and tiring situations can get overwhelming! There is nothing unusual about this, but some people have made a way of life out of “crabbing” about everything that goes wrong! We can cross the line from “venting a problem” to a friend to an area of just plain ole complaining! I like the saying Joyce Meyer uses, “Do you run to the phone or do you run to the Throne!” That really got my attention when I heard it because I had always run to the phone whenever I had a problem. I guess I thought it would make me “feel” better, but it never did. There is one thing that is sure to happen when you pray, though. Peace will come when you run to the Throne of God . “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” I Peter 5:7

Sometimes life throws you small struggles – sometimes the trial is so tough you don't feel like you can take your next breath. You can always look around and find someone who is worse off than you are, so “What are you crabbing about!”

We've got to learn to quit getting upset. We've got to learn to keep our peace and rise above the situation.

We are so grateful to all the DJ's who have played “He Can Move the Water.” Thank you so much for welcoming our family into Southern Gospel Radio. Crabb Family - Jul 05

What an amazing Crabbfest we had last week. I promise anyone that attended would say the same thing. Of course we kicked it off with our Meet and Greet on Wednesday at 2pm. That is for our VIP tickets to come and have a lunch with the family and a little acoustic set as well. It was hot, but yet great! We couldn't have had a better start than we did. Wednesday night was filled with some of the greatest artists in Southern Gospel Music. As every night was....

Thursday morning worship we had a powerful message preached by my husband Aaron about the Blood! There truly is "power in the blood!" I believe there were 3 people saved that service and only God knows what else took place. Thursday afternoon we had a fun little showcase with the Freemans and Mike Bowling. They took us back a few years with that great Hinson sound. Then of course Thursday night was another great night of gospel music.

Friday morning "early" us Crabb girls held a prayer breakfast, where we were all able to share our spiritual journey over the past year, and where we desire to be next year. The breakfast ended with a powerful communion service. If you missed it you need to make sure you are there next year. The 11am worship was also ministered by the Crabb Girls. We all chose a woman out of the bible who we could most relate to in life and share how. It turned to be one of the most amazing altar services I have ever seen. All to the glory of God... Only He can do such a work. The showcase Friday was the famous Crabb Karaoke! That is always so fun because it gives our fans the chance to sing their favorite song with the Crabb Family. It is great to watch! Friday night was a memorable night of music.

Saturday morning the Crabb guys decided to do a service. Adam, and Jon shared a heartfelt word from the Lord. They both talked on Job and not giving up. Then Jason came and preached a message that is so needed. Titled "At the altar, but too late". Amazing! Just when I thought that the altar service couldn't get any better then the day before, it did! The service went so long that we had to move the showcase to 2:30 instead of 2pm. God really shows up when we allow him to. The Crabb family had a surprise showcase this year! I am so glad it is over because I was about to bust knowing what it was, and not being able to tell. It
was the Martins!! They did an incredible job, as always.. Saturday night ended with a shout and an altar call. Several people came up for prayer. God is so good. Thank you to all of our groups that came and ministered to us this week. I also want to thank all of our volunteers! We couldn't do this without you and all your hard work. And of course, you that purchase those tickets and support our ministry, WE LOVE YOU !!! Remember it isn't about the Crabb family or you! It is about Him and His Amazing Grace!!

I guess if I had to use one word to describe Crabbfest it would be........ AMAZING!!!! God Bless you all!

Amanda Crabb
